Episode Notes
We all fall and fail.
We mess up and make monumental mistakes.
Some are public; others are private, but all are painful.
Luke 22:39 (NIV) Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and
his disciples followed him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them,
“Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a
stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you
are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And
being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like
drops of blood falling to the ground.
Luke 22:63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and
beating him. 64 They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who
hit you?” 65 And they said many other insulting things to him.
Luke 23:13-16 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and
the people, 14 and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who
was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your
presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.
15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he
2
has done nothing to deserve death. 16 Therefore, I will punish him and
then release him.”
Luke 23:49 But all those who knew Him, including the women who
had followed Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these
things.
Things Jesus faced:
Loneliness
Betrayal
Disappointment
Opposition
Humiliation
Pain
Defeat
Death
John 20:1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark,
Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been
removed from the entrance.
11 but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over
to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where
Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.
13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken
3
my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put
Him.”
14 …she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not
realize that it was Jesus. 15 “Woman,” He said, “Why are you crying?
Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking He was the gardener, she said,
“Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him,
and I will get him.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward
Him and cried out…
1 Corinthians 15:3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first
importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4 that He was buried that He was raised on the third day according to
the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Peter, and then to the
Twelve. 6 After that, He appeared to more than five hundred of the
brothers at the same time most of whom are still living. 7 Then He
appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all He
appeared to me…
Ephesians 2:1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience
and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin… 3 All of us used to live
that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our
sinful nature… 4 But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so
much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave
us life when He raised Christ from the dead.
God brings new, fresh life in place of death.
4
You may be down, but you don’t have to stay down.
You may be defeated, but you don’t have to stay defeated.
Even though it looks over, it’s not over, because the same power that
raised Jesus from the dead can give you new hope, a new start and a
new life.
